As a brand new year unfolds, we all wonder what life will bring our way this year or what new paths we will have to tread. For some of us, depending on what the pass held, this might not bring much comfort, for others, we may be expectant and looking forward to what the future holds. Proverbs 23:18 tells us that there is surely a future hope for each of us, and our hope will not be cut off if we trust in the Lord. Many people think being optimistic or being expectant about their future is foolish and that if they actually believe, they will just be disappointed. It all depends on where they are placing their hope. Putting our hope in man or material things can bring disappointment however if we will hope in the Lord, He will never disappoint us. Yes, we may go through some hard times, we might even face some of our greatest enemies, like sickness, or death, but He assures us that He is always there and if our focus is not on self protection but upon Him, we will be filled with more love and hope than we can imagine, even in our most difficult times. If you are uncertain about your future or you are in need of encouragement to face the new year, God’s Word tells you in Jeremiah 29:11 that He knows the plans He has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. May you put your trust in God this year so that you will experience that hope and find security in knowing that there can be a better tomorrow.
